One tooth, two tooth, three tooth, four tooth…

Yep that is right; Austin is now the proud owner of 4 teeth. Both top central incisors cut through this week. Austin has also been working on her “crusin” (walking while holding on to furniture for support) skills. It always seems like I can never find my camera when she is doing it though. I did catch it a little bit and posted it below.

On Friday night we had an interesting bedtime experience. Austin has been wonderful at bedtime for months and months. We have her bedtime routine down pat and we do not sway from it. Although the last week or so after she gets out of the bath she gets extremely fussy when Luke is dressing her in her jammies. Once I give her her bedtime bottle, she calms right down. After she is done with her bottle, I burp her (if she has not already accomplished this on her own), brush her teeth and lay her down in her crib. There is no crying or fussing and in a few minutes she asleep. Well Friday night I laid her down in her crib, left the room and she started screaming bloody murder. This is the type of crying that make me want to vomit. I clicked on the video monitor and sure enough Austin was standing in her crib just wailing away. Luke and I were at a lost. We let her cry for 5 minutes and it did not look like she was going to sit herself back down and I was afraid she was stuck, so Luke went in and laid her back down. She quieted down while he was in the room, but as soon as he left she began wailing again and stood right back up. We waited another 10 minutes and I went in this time. I laid her down, rubbed her belly a few times and left the room. She cried, but definitely calmed down. Within 2 minutes she had put herself to sleep. Thank god! I e-mailed the sleep doula right away and she told me that most likely Austin was going through a sleep interruption phase. She said this happens when babies start pulling themselves, then walking, ect. She said we did the right thing.

Yesterday we had our 5th annual pool party. It’s very interesting playing “hostess” when you have a mobile 9 month old child. I really feel like I ignored a lot of my guest, but definitely not on purpose. This year was a lot different then years past. There were 2 babies and 3 pregnant women in attendance. When it came time to put Austin to bed I was concerned she would have the same issues as the previous night, but not my baby girl. I did rock her a few minutes after she finished up her bottle. I laid her down and she was out. Overall the party went well, it so nice to get everyone together. It's becoming more and more difficult to get that accomplished.

I am posting a couple pictures of Austin interacting with my friend Ragen’s son Jaxson. He is 4 months old.

9 Month Update

Now that Austin has mastered pulling herself up, she had a new goal of walking. This week she has started to pull herself up on her ride on toy and as it starts moving away from her she will take 2 or 3 steps before she falls. We cannot believe how far she has progressive in just one week’s time. Austin also has learned how to clap. I was holding her this morning and she just started clapping. It was too precious. I think she was clapping along to the music on TV. She still refuses to wave hello or goodbye. Every single day we work on it with her and she is just not interested in doing it.

Since Luke’s Mom has been in town it’s giving us a great opportunity to go out and have some “adult” time. This past week we went to the movies and finally saw The Hangover and last night we went to dinner and drinks with our friend’s Travis and Sonja. I definitely feel more comfortable each time we go out. I can remember the first time we went out without the baby. We were gone exactly 2 hours and 15 minutes and I was worried sick the whole time about leaving her. However, I am still working up to being able to leave her for an overnight.

9 Month Check-up

On Friday Austin has her 9 month check up. I was pretty sure that Austin would not have to get any shots, but I was wrong. She ended up getting two shots and she did pretty well with them. Don’t get me wrong she screamed her little heart out and her face got red as a tomato, but we were able to comfort her within a minute. She also got a hemoglobin test and they pricked her heal first…and of course the nurse couldn't get any blood, so she had to prick her toe too. Austin looked like a pin cushion when we left with all the band-aids on her. The doctor said the hemoglobin test tests her iron level and for anemia. They like to see at least 10 on the test, Austin was 14. Oh, I almost forgot. Austin weighed in at 20lbs 3ozs and is 29 ½ inches long. Her weight is holding steady at the 75th percentile and her height at the 97th percentile. The doctor also said he could see that 2 of Austin’s top incisors were coming in, but did not say how long it would be into they cut through.

At this appointment I had lots of questions for the doctor surrounding Austin’s eating and drinking habits, including how much, when, what, ect. He said that Austin can pretty much eat whatever we are eating except eggs, honey, nuts and shell fish. He said that as long as it’s the size of a cheerio or smaller and soft she should be able to mash it up with her gums. He also gave us the okay to introduce dairy (yogurt and cheese) into her diet.

Austin has also been pulling herself up on everything and everyone. She is getting so strong. I do not think she is anywhere near walking, but she definitely enjoys standing up. Luke’s Mom is in town this week and yesterday we all went to Babies R Us. Sandy ended up buying Austin this wonderful 4 in 1 ride on toy (thanks Villa family for the idea). She is still a little young for it, but it was so fun to watch her try and scoot herself around in it. Lately Austin has not been interested in any of her toys. She much rather crawl around and “explore.” This has kept us on our toes. She is so good at finding that one thing we have not baby proofed yet.
